PHASE 3
The Napoleon Avenue Canal Widening SELA project consists of building a larger concrete box canal adjacent to the existing canal. The project will be constructed in two phases. Phase II will be between Claiborne Ave. and Carondelet St. The size of the new canal at Carondelet St. will be 18’ wide by 10’ tall and shall proceed 5 blocks to S. Liberty St. At S. Liberty St., the canal widens to 24’. The new canal remains 24’ wide for 6 blocks until Willow St. At Willow St., the canal widens again to 28’ to join the existing canal constructed in the earlier SELA Phase I project.

The Sewerage and Water Board hired the design A/E firm of Schrenk & Peterson (Phase 3 - Carondelet to Constance) to complete the plans and specifications for this project.

The contract for Phase 3 was awarded to Boh Bros. Construction Co. for $55.1 million by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in September 2013. The S&WB will pay $2.4 million beforehand for utility relocations during construction.
