The project consists of constructing a concrete box canal from Constance St. to S. Claiborne Ave in the Louisiana Avenue neutral ground. The canal will be 8’ wide by 6’ high from Constance St. to St. Charles Ave., 10’ wide by 8’ high from St. Charles Ave. to Liberty St. and 16’ wide by 7.5’ high from S. Liberty Street to S. Claiborne Avenue. The new canal will tie into the S. Claiborne Avenue Manifold Canal and will provide a new route for storm water flow, relieving the existing Third Street and Napoleon Avenue Canals. Modifications will be made to the existing drainage in the vicinity to aid in diverting flow to this new canal.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hired the design A/E firm of URS to complete the plans and specifications for this project. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be responsible for the construction contract. The contract was awarded to Boh Bros. Construction Co. for $82.6 million by the Corps in July 2014.
